Updates from the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut Highlands

USFS Study

The USDA Forest Service has completed three studies since 1992 on the Highlands region, two studies each for the NY and NJ Highlands and one for the PA and CT Highlands. These studies have focused on assessing five core resource value areas - forests, biodiversity, water, agriculture, and recreation. Using GIS data and social surveys (results) of key participants, USFS scientists, university researchers, and nonprofit partners mapped the highest value resources in all four states in order to target conservation efforts. This NJ-NY study is available at the USFS study website, while the soon to be completed PA-CT study information can be found at the UConn website.
