Federal Calendar
December/January
- Develop fact sheets and press materials on projects.
- Collect letters of support from local officials, businesses & state representatives.
February
- Distribute press release if your project is included in the President’s budget.
- Call / email members of Congress & ask for support.
- Use an action alert to get the word out to members and colleagues.
February/March
- Visit DC & advocate for funding.
- Set up a meeting with your member of Congress at their district office.
- Ask members of Congress to include the project in their “budget submission to the House Interior Appropriations Committee.
- Submit organizational letters of support.
- Begin planning tours or site visits for members of Congress.
April
- Offer to write opinion pieces for local papers asking for support for conservation funding including LWCF, FLP and HCA as well as funding for specific projects.
May
- Ask Senators to include projects in their “budget submission to the Senate Interior Appropriations Committee.
- Submit organizational letters of support.
- Generate letters to the editor encouraging Congress to fully fund LWCF, FLP and HCA as well as funding for specific projects.
June
- Email or call Representative and Senators to ask them to continue supporting key projects.
- Use an action alert to get out the word to others.
July
- Generate letters to the editor thanking members of Congress for their support.
August
- Host site visits to for a member Congress, Administration officials & the media.
September - November
- Host award ceremonies and ribbon cutting events for projects that receive funding.
- Develop fact sheets for future FLP, HCA and LWCF projects.
